Jodie Foster stars as Dr Lilian Steiner, an American psychiatrist living and working in Paris. When Paula, one of her long-term patients, is discovered dead, Lilian is not convinced by the official report of it being a suicide. Beginning her own amateur investigation to discover who may have murdered Paula, she battles both local police and Paula's grieving family. Both a thrilling murder mystery and an intimate portrayal of a woman dealing with her own personal demons.
